Are you a Family Caregiver? Do you help an older relative or friend with errands, personal care or transportation, or provide companionship, emotional or financial support? Whether you provide care for someone living near you or hundreds of miles away, you face many challenges.
And if you are taking care of an older or disabled adult or relative, who is taking care of you? Caring for an older or disabled adult can be stressful-physically, emotionally and financially.
That's why Exxon Mobil Corporation is sponsoring Powerful Tools for Caregivers - an on-line, educational program - designed to provide you with the tools you need to take care of yourself. This first of its kind e-learning class has been designed to help you navigate your caregiving role. This six-part course can be accessed via the Internet whenever and wherever it is convenient for you. With a minimum commitment of one - two hours a week, you will learn to manage stress; communicate effectively with others such as the care receiver, doctors and other professionals; make difficult decisions; find resources; and better manage your work and family responsibilities.
This program is being offered by Mather LifeWays. A trained Mather LifeWays' facilitator will be available to answer your questions, provide feedback and facilitate interaction among the class participants via an electronic discussion board. The class moves forward on weekly intervals for six weeks and courses are being scheduled now. Class size will be limited. You will be scheduled for the next available class on a first come, first served basis.
